Nayeem encounter case completes one year: SIT claims progress

Hyderabad: One year has elapsed after gangster Nayeem’s encounter. Special Investigation Team headed by IGP, Mr. Y Nagi Reddy claimed to have made progress in this case. It has registered 227 cases in various districts against Nayeem’s gang. SIT arrested 128 accused in this connection whereas 109 accused were interrogated in police custody. The investigating agency recorded the statements of 895 witnesses and filed chargesheets in nine cases. It completed investigations in 22 cases and it is likely to file chargesheets. The investigations of other cases are also in the final stage. 14 trusted companions of gangster Nayeem have been kept in prison for a long time under PD act.

The incharge of SIT told that 5 officials have been suspended for allegedly maintaining contacts with Nayeem whereas disciplinary action has been taken against 20 police officials. It is expected that the investigations of other cases will also be completed soon.
