New assembly in Andhra Pradesh to be taller than the Statue of Unity

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh government has decided to build their state Assembly taller than the newly-unveiled Statue of Unity. The CM has reportedly finalised the design of the proposed structure and the blueprint will soon be submitted to the state by Britain-based architects Norma Fosters.

Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana said the proposed structure will be shaped like an upside-down lily. He said the building will be cyclone and earthquake-proof. The three-floor Assembly building will have a 250-meter tower making it taller than the 182-metre Statue of Unity in Gujarat.

According to the report published in Times of India, the tending process for the construction of the proposed assembly will begin by the end of November. As per the blueprint, the new structure will have three floors and a tower that spirals 250 metres into the sky.

Earlier in October, on the construction of the Statue of Unity, there was a sharp criticism as Rs 2,989 crores were spent on a mere statue. It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said that the statue will be a reminder to the nation of Sardar Vallabhai Patel’s efforts to unify India shortly after the country gained independence from the British.
