NIA alerts TS police of Maoists attacks on politicos

Hyderabad: The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has cautioned the Telangana State police to remain alert in view of Assembly elections as there was a scope that Maoists might resort to attacks on political leaders.

The NIA suggested to five States—Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana State — where elections were announced, to be on high alert. The NIA has already alerted the Maoist infested Chattisgarh State in this regard. The NIA also felt there was a chance in Telangana State that the Maoists would target a few TRS and BJP public representatives.

According to NIA, the Maoists were in favor of the main Opposition party Congress. On the other hand, the police informed that they have also intensified intelligence on Congress leaders too. The Intelligence authorities have informed that the Maoists chalked out a special action plan in view of Assembly elections for the last two months in Sukma Dandakarnya in Chattisgarh.

Telangana State DGP M Mahender Reddy directed the police to be alert across the Telangana State. He said they also chalked out counter plans to face the Maoists strategies in elections. It may be mentioned here that the Maoists were already called upon the people to boycott the elections in Chattisgarh.
