Nine Naxals, two security personnel killed in Anti-Naxal operation

New Delhi: Two Police personnel were martyred in the line of duty while nine Naxals were gunned down today in an encounter between the Ultras and security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma District, India TV reports.

The shootout is reported to have taken place at a forest in Kistaram area bordering Telangana, around 500 km from here after a team of paramilitary forces and police decided to take on Maoist Communist Party of India in the core area of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).

The anti-Naxal operation that begun around 10.30 a.m. at the forest near Sakler village saw as many as over 150 Left wing extremists clashing with troops of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the District Reserve Group of the Chhattisgarh Police, an official said.

“Security forces of different units went inside the PLGA’s core area from different directions,” said CRPF Deputy Inspector General M. Dinakaran.

Injured PLGA member’s in the operation were arrested while other bodies were recovered apart from seizing large quantities of arms and ammunition.
