New Delhi: The Central Vigilance Commission that was probing CBI director Alok Verma’s bribery case has reportedly found no proof of him accepting any bribes as alleged by his deputy Rakesh Asthana.
According to the sources, the vigilance body has found no evidence of any corruption, or money transactions done on his name.
The exiled CBI director Alok Verma has been cleared on this allegation said the sources, NDTV reports.
However, the vigilance body found “administrative lapses” regarding CBI director.
Things turned sour between the two officials when they started accusing each other of corruption and accepting the bribe from a businessman under investigation following which both the officials were sent on leave last month.
Earlier Rakesh Asthana had written to the government and the vigilance chief accusing his boss of accepting bribe from the businessman.
When CBI director Alok Verma was forcibly sent on leave or exiled, he moved the Supreme Court challenging his leave by the Government.
The apex court had then asked the vigilance body to finish the corruption probe against Verma within two weeks.
The inquiry report in a sealed cover was submitted in the top court on Monday and the commission had also apologized to the court for submitting it a day late.
