Nothing wrong in chanting ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar: President People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that there is nothing wrong in chanting ‘Bharat mata ki Jai’ however she said she will never chant the slogan to prove her nationalism. She said it is not necessary that an Indian citizen must chant ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ to prove his nationalism. She told this while talking to a news channel ‘Aaj Tak’.

Referring to the incident in which former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah was heckled during Eid prayers at the 17th century Hazratbal mosque in Srinagar on Wednesday for chanting “Bharat mata ki jai” and “Jai Hind” when he was paying tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee during the all-party prayer meeting on Monday, she said it was his own wish.

She maintained that it was not fair to make issue on slogans. However she said she will never chant ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ or ‘Hindustan zindabad’ slogans to prove her nationalism.
