NRC: After being declared ‘foreigner’, Kargil war hero Sanaullah granted bail

Gauhati: Detained after being declared ‘foreigner’, Kargil war veteran Honourary Captain (retd), Mohammed Sanaullah granted interim bail by Gauhati High Court on Friday.

Bench of Justice Manojit Bhuyan passed the order and told the ex-Army officer to furnish bail bond of Rs. 20,000.

Sana Ullah was detained from his house in Satgaon by the police on Tuesday, May 28 and sent to a detention camp in Assam’s Goalpara district after the Foreigner Tribunal at Boko passed the order declaring him a non-citizen.

Later, reports emerged that the case against Sanaullah was fabricated.

Three people named as witnesses in the case have filed a case against against a retired Sub-Inspector Chandramal Das of the Assam Police border branch for preparing an allegedly forged report against Sanaullah.

Mohammad Kuran Ali, Suwahan Ali and Ajmal Ali-all residents of Kalahikash village alleged in the FIRs that Das, the officer who is investigating Sanaullah’s case, fabricated their statements and signatures to implicate Sanaullah, an honourary Captain of the Indian Army.

Born in July 30, 1967 to Mohammed Ali, Sanaullah is a resident of Kolohi village under Boko Police Station is a genuine Indian citizen. He completed his schooling from Champu Para Government High School.

Sanaullah, 52, as per records, joined the Indian Army in 1987. He served in the Indian Army for 30 years and upon retirement as Honorary Captain in 2017 took up a job with the Assam Police as a Sub Inspector in the Border Branch.

Before joining Border Police, Sanaullah was designated as a Captain in the Indian Army. He was also conferred a medal by President of India in 2014 for his service.

His family has alleged that Sanaullah has fallen into a trap of ‘conspiracy’ and had filed a petition in the Guwahati High Court challenging the order passed by the Foreigners’ Tribunal.
