NY attorney general sues Trump Foundation

New York: New York’s attorney general Barbara Underwood on Thursday filed a lawsuit against United States President Donald Trump, his three eldest children and his namesake foundation alleging that the charity has violated federal and state law.
According to the complaint, reported by the Hill, “For more than a decade, the Donald J. Trump Foundation has operated in persistent violation of state and federal law governing New York State charities.”

“This pattern of illegal conduct by the Foundation and its board members includes improper and extensive political activity, repeated and willful self-dealing transactions, and failure to follow basic fiduciary obligations or to implement event elementary corporate formalities required by law,” the complaint added.

The lawsuit sought to dissolve the foundation and impose a ban on Trump and three of his children from serving on non-profit organizations.

Taking an aim at the lawsuit, Trump swiftly took to Twitter and called it an attempt by the “sleazy New York Democrats” to damage him by suing the foundation, adding not to settle the case.

“The sleazy New York Democrats, and their now disgraced (and run out of town) A.G. Eric Schneiderman, are doing everything they can to sue me on a foundation that took in $18,800,000 and gave out to charity more money than it took in, $19,200,000. I won’t settle this case!…,” Trump tweeted.

The Trump Foundation, in a statement, threw flak at the lawsuit labelling it as “politics at its very worst.”(ANI)
