Odisha HC lawyers withdraw cease-work strike after 78 days

Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court Bar Association on Wednesday called off its 78-day cease-work stir after three police personnel accused of assaulting a lawyer sought an unconditional apology before the High Court.

The bar association decided that the lawyers would join their duty from Thursday.

Bar association president Srikant Nayak said the three policemen involved in the assault on a lawyer on August 28 appeared before the bench of the High Court of Justice C.R. Das and tendered an unconditional apology for the incident.

The court has informed that it will constitute a high-level committee to deal with a similar situation in future, said Nayak.

He said a senior official of the state government, president and secretary of High Court Bar Association and three selected senior advocates will be members of the committee.

“We will join the court proceedings from tomorrow. We urge bar associations in the state, which have been supporting us, to resume their duty from tomorrow,” he added.

The lawyers were on strike demanding arrest of the policemen involved in the attack on their colleague in Cuttack on August 28.
