One held for sexually abusing minor in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A shopkeeper was arrested for alleged sexual abuse of a 10-year-old minor in the city’s southern suburb, police said on Tuesday.

“Accused Nataraj, 36, was arrested on a complaint from the victim’s parents on Sunday that he lured their young daughter into his provisions store offering chocolates and sexually abused her in the shop itself on Saturday,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) S.D. Sharanappa told reporters here.

On return from the shop, when the victim complained to her parents of abdominal pain at home, they took her to a doctor who examined her and confirmed that she was sexually assaulted.

“Though the accused fled from the shop after committing the crime, our probe team tracked him down hiding at his relative’s house in the same suburb and nabbed him on Sunday,” said Sharanappa.

A local court on Monday remanded Nataraj to 14-day judicial custody after a case was registered against him under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, 2012 and sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
