Mr. Maskoor Ahmad Usmani, a Medical student of Aligarh Muslim University has launched an online petition for restoration of minority character of AMU.
The petition has been launched on website www.change.org and is addressed to President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, HRD Minister Smriti Irani, Registrar Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, and PMO India. When a person sign this petition a e-mail is sent to all the addressees of this petition to show their support for the cause.
Mr. Maskoor has requested all well-wishers of university including Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni and all those who want restoration of minority character of AMU to sign this online petition and play their role by supporting this online petition. He further added that minority character is soul of our alma mater and a matter of pride and prestige of all those who believe in educational upliftment of those sections/communities of society who are educationally and socially backward.
Maskoor said that our constitution guarantees right to protect educational interest of minorities and as Muslims are one of the most backward minorities in country, it is responsibility of every well-wishers of country to come forward and support the initiatives leading to their educational & social development.
He said that people across religious, political & social lines have supported the restoration of minority character of AMU and it is a welcome step.
As a matter of fact, Aligarh Muslim University has been playing vital role in educational and social development of Muslims since its inception as MAO College in 1875 which was later upgraded to university by then British legislative council in 1920 by an Act of Parliament after payment of Rs. Thirty Lakh by Muslim University Association (124 Trustees) at that time.
Dr. Maskoor Ahmad Usmani further added that Alumni of AMU are spread all over the world so he requested them also to play active role in restoration of minority character of AMU. The case is pending before Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and next hearing is on 4TH April’2016.
