Open to post-poll alliance with BJP in 2019 polls: KCR

NEW DELHI: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader and the state’s Chief Minister K Charashekhar Rao (KCR) open to post-poll alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) if the party falls short of a majority in 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.

According to a report by the Times of India, quoting sources, KCR on Saturday met PM Modi in Delhi and during an hour-long meeting, PM Modi and the TRS president discussed at least 11 issues and also the crucial 2019 elections at length.

The TRS sees a pre-poll alliance with the BJP is not capable of working successfully but is open to the idea of having a possible post-election alliance with the Saffron party in case the ruling NDA falls short of numbers.

This is his second meeting with the Prime Minister in less than 50 days. KCR had met PM also in June.

The ruling TRS in Telangana has been supportive of PM Modi and the BJP-led NDA government during the last four years. Recently, the TRS abstained from voting” on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha.

Earlier, Mr. Rao was the first CM to support demonetisation and GST. TRS preferred BJP candidates with RSS background and voted in the elections for President and Vice-President.

After the BJP break-up with the TDP president and Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu, the saffron party has been warming up to TRS to gain allies in South India.
