‘Orange is the New Black’ to end with Season 7

Washington: Looks like fans of Netflix’s ‘Orange is the New Black’ may have a reason to worry, as makers have announced that the upcoming Season 7 will be the finale edition of the award-winning drama.

Makers of the series posted a video message of the ensemble cast confirming the end of the series, titled “Warning: This may make you cry. The Final Season, 2019. #OITNB”

The series, which has been created by Jenji Kohan based on Piper Kerman’s memoir Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison, received widespread acclaim since its 2013 premiere, becoming Netflix’s most-watched original series, Deadline reported.

For its first season, the series earned 12 Primetime Emmy nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, winning three. It went on to earn additional four nominations in Season 2, including Outstanding Drama Series, and win for Uzo Aduba for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

The series also has received six Golden Globe Award nominations, six Writers Guild of America Award nominations, a Producers Guild of America Award, an American Film Institute award, and a Peabody Award.
Orange is the New Black features Taylor Schilling as Piper, Aduba, Kate Mulgrew, Laura Prepon, Laverne Cox, Taryn Manning, Yael Stone, Jackie Cruz, Elizabeth Rodriguez Michael Harney and Nick Sandow, among others.
Season 7 is scheduled to premiere in summer next year.
