Osmania campus remains tense, 34 students arrested

Once again tension prevailed on the Osmania University campus on Monday when the police tried to foil agitation by the students at the Arts College.

The police resorted to lathi-charge when the irate students pelted stones at them when they tried to take out a rally. When the police men tried to chase them away, the students staged a dharna at Arts College demanding that the State government pay ex gratia to the kin of student Murali, who committed suicide on Sunday at Maner Hostel.

Meanwhile, the DCP announced that 34 students were arrested for resorting to provocative acts. He alleged that the situation on the campus turned tense only after the entry of political leaders into the University.

Earlier, the police arrested TPCC official spokesperson Addanki Dayakar and other Congress leaders in the morning when they came to the Campus to console the students who suffered injuries in the police action on Sunday. (NSS)
