OU Centenary: “There should be a free exchange of ideas,” says Pranab Mukherjee

Hyderabad: The Centenary Celebration was inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday in OU. In his address, he regarded Universities as temples and a place of exchange of ideas.

The gathering was attended by a large number of students, faculty, alumni and others. He quoted Jawaharlal Nehru and said, “Osmania University was also established with this dream that it will be an institution of excellence where free minds will meet freely, interact and exchange ideas and live in peaceful co-existence.”

According to a report of Telangana today, He shared his observation on the role of ancient India in the field of higher education and gave examples of universities such as Taxila, Nalanda, and Vikramshila.

He also said that in order to carry out the high-order researches, the basic researches should be first done. He also encouraged the industries to come forward to help the states funding these Universities.

Governor, ESL Narasimhan, Chief Minister, K.Chandrasekhar Rao, Union Minister, Bandaru Dattatreya, Member of Parliament, K Keshava Rao, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and several others attended the event.

The president wished Osmania University for achieving its goals. OU Vice-Chancellor and Prof. S Ramachandran thanked Chief minister for sanctioning RS 200 crores to celebrate OU centenary.
