OU to hire foreign faculty to strengthen academics

Hyderabad: To strengthen the academic performance and provide the students with best expertise faculty from different subjects, the Osmania University is planning to hire foreign faculty.

However, the foreign faculty will be hired only after the process of recruitment for existing vacancies has been complete.

A total 1,251 posts have been sanctioned by the government. Nearly 60 per cent of these posts are vacant on account of retirement of several teachers over the years. So, there are 400 posts to be filled .

According to the news reported in Telangana Today, Prof S Ramachandram, OU Vice-Chancellor told that “The university has plans to hire and it will be done only after completion of direct recruitment to various posts.”

Foreign faculty can be hired from abroad by the university on a tenure/contract up to 20 per cent of the total sanctioned faculty.

According to the recently issued guidelines by the University Grants Commission, universities categorised under I and II can hire foreign faculty without its approval.

Also, as per the guidelines, the universities whose NAAC score is 3.51 come under Category I. There are also other criteria for being recognised as category I university, according to UGC guidelines.
