After an unusual dry spell for few days, the sudden heavy downpour overnight has left many low lying areas inundated and streets stagnated with knee-deep rain water in the state capital.

Many colonies in the low lying areas, especially in Malkajgiri, Nacharam and Uppal were waterlogged while roads and streets in Panjagutta, Banjara Hills, Ameerpet, Secunderabad, Uppal, Boduppal, Mehdipatnam, LB Nagar, RTC Cross Roads and other areas were inundated with overflowing rain water.

Heavy rains in Neredmet and Malkajgiri areas resulted in the nearby Bandlacheruvu tank overflowing. In some areas like East Anandbagh, Venkateshwara Nagar, Shiridinagar etc, drain water entered the houses putting the residents to lot of inconvenience.

A city bus got stuck in the overflowing knee-deep water in Nacharam. Five passengers were traveling in the bus when it got stuck in the overflowing rain water. The Municipal Corporation authorities on receipt of information rushed to the spot and pulled out the bus using a crane.

GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy initiated all relief and rescue operations by pressing into service all monsoon emergency services. The emergency teams and field staff launched a massive operation and clearing the stagnated rain water in many areas. The GHMC authorities also kept many teams on standby to take up any emergency relief work keeping in view the expected rains in the evening. The overnight rainfall recorded at various places ranged between 6 m to 11 cm, with Nacharam receiving the highest rainfall. (NSS).
