‘Padmaavat’ to be screened at Shanghai Film Festival

New Delhi: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ is continuing to set benchmarks at a global level.

Having crossed over Rs 585 crores at the worldwide box office, the period drama will now be screened at the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival.

The visual extravaganza will be screened in the non-competition section of Focus India of the SIFF, to be held from June 16 to 25.

‘Padmaavat’ broke box office records both on home turf and overseas, helping filmmaker Bhansali outdo his last box office numbers.

The film, which released on January 25, had run into trouble time and again, as members of several Rajput factions had accused Bhansali of distorting history.

Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor in pivotal roles, the film is based on the legend of Rani Padmini, a 13th century Hindu Rajput queen, mentioned in Padmavat, an Awadhi poem written by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540. (ANI)
