Padmavati row: Muslims never objected to Mughal-e-Azam, says Azam Khan

LUCKNOW: Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Tuesday jumps into controversy surrounding Padmavati saying Muslims would never object to a movie Mughal-e-Azam over fears that it would distort their history.
Speaking at an event in Rampur, the former Uttar Pradesh Minister said:
“There is objection over story of a film. Famous film Mughal-e-Azam showed Anarkali as Saleem’s mehbooba (lover), but in reality there was no such thing. Muslims never objected because it is a story. Muslims are large-hearted… they know a film can’t ruin their history,” ANI quoted the outspoken leader as saying.

Various Rajput groups have been protesting across the country, including in Rajasthan, against the ‘Padmavati’ director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, alleging it “distorts” history and hurts sentiments of people.
Historians are, however, divided on whether Rani Padmavati even existed.
