Pak elections: Bilawal to support the son of grandfather’s killer

Islamabad: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will support Pakistan Muslim League-Zia (PML-Z) candidate Ijaz-ul-Haq for the July 25 general elections.

Haq is the son of slain military dictator, General (retd) Zia-ul-Haq, who caused the execution of Bilawal’s grandfather and PPP founder, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, in 1979.

Addressing a press conference, PPP leader Umar Draz Wattoo said his party will support PML-Z candidate Haq in the NA-169 constituency, reported SAMAA TV on Thursday.

NA-169 is the Bahawalnagar-IV constituency for the National Assembly of Pakistan.

“Our supporters will vote for Ijaz-ul-Haq since there is no PPP candidate in the constituency,” Wattoo said.

Haq and PPP have so far played a see-saw of defeat and victory in some past general elections.

In 2008 polls, he lost the National Assembly seat to PPP.

Haq ran from two Bahawalnagar constituencies in 2013, but lost NA-190 and won NA-191.

He was re-elected as the member of the National Assembly from NA-191, defeating the PPP candidate.
