Parliament should summon Attorney General: Yechury on Rafale deal

New Delhi: Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Sunday said that the Parliament should summon Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi for allowing the Centre to present factually wrong affidavit before the Supreme Court in Rafael deal case.

This comes after the apex court on December 14 dismissed all the petitions seeking probe into the Rafale deal stating that it was “satisfied” with the Central government’s decision-making process.

A day after the Supreme Court delivered verdict in the Rafale deal case, the central government on Saturday filed an application before it, seeking a correction in the order to make it clear that the pricing aspect, examined by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), has not been looked into by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as yet.

Taking a note that Centre sought correction in Rafale deal report submitted to the apex court, Yechury told ANI: ” It’s very clear that Supreme Court was misled by the government as the court delivered a verdict based on it. Attorney General should be summoned by the Parliament as he allowed the Centre to present a factually wrong affidavit before the Supreme Court. Now, only he can answer why the government bypassed the legislature.”

Elaborating that by submitting the report before the apex court first government breached the Constitution, Yechury said, “The report should’ve first gone to the President by the CAG and then it should be placed before the Parliament but it directly went to the Judiciary, breaching the norms of the Constitution.”

He further said that it is a very sensitive matter, “Why the government misled the apex court also need to be investigated and there is no other way except to constitute Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to find out the truth in Rafale deal.”
