PDP asks Haseeb Drabu to retract his statement, says ‘J&K a political issue’

Srinagar: Ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) vice-president Mohammad Sartaj Madni on Monday asked state’s Finance Minister and party leader Haseeb Drabu to withdraw his statement saying, “Jammu and Kashmir should not be seen as a conflict state or a political problem”.

“The party takes serious note of the statement made reportedly by Haseeb A Drabu in a function at New Delhi regarding nature of problems in J-K and has asked the minister to retract the statement immediately if it has been reported correctly in the media,” Madni said. He added that the state was a political issue and its resolution formed the party’s core agenda.

“The party recognises Jammu and Kashmir as a political issue and ever since its emergence, the party has relentlessly been pursuing its resolution through reconciliation and dialogue – both at internal and external levels,” Madni said.

The party vice- president also suggested the senior leaders to be careful while speaking on party’s basic political philosophy and core agenda.

Madni recalled former chief minister and the founder of party, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s vision saying the resolution of Kashmir formed the core of his struggle and sacrifices.

“The PDP is committed to push its agenda for peaceful and dignified resolution of the Kashmir problem which alone will lessen the tension in the region and release huge financial resources of the two countries for development of their economies,” he said.
