Hyderabad: The Pune police arrested revolutionary writer Varavara Rao today at his residence here on Tuesday after the thorough raids in his residence along with the houses of his daughters on the allegations of conspiracy hatched to assassinate the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After the raids the Pune police took Varavara Rao into their custody and shifted him to Gandhi Hospital for tests. It is learnt that the police will shift Varara Rao to Pune after producing him in Nampally Court.
It may be mentioned here that the Varavara Rao’s name came to light in connection with the alleged conspiracy Maoists hatched to assassinate Narendra Modi. Varavara Rao was also condemned it then only saying that assassination of Modi was not possible with the Maoists.
The Pune police filed a case against Varavara Rao while identifying the name of Varavara Rao in the alleged letter addressed by the Maoists. It is learnt that the police were also suspecting Varavara Rao in collecting the funds for the sake of Maoists. The Pune police, who reached here early in the morning, formed four teams and conducted raids in his residence along with his daughters and friends’ residences.
Cases against seven others
Later, the police arrested Varavara Rao. The police also filed cases against seven others in this regard. The police conducted raids even in Varavara Rao’s two daughters’ houses, EFL University Professor Sathyanarana, journalists Koormanath (Business Standarad) and Tekula Kranthi (Namasthe Telangana), and in Virasam leaders’ houses. It is learnt that the police conducted these raids on the alleged letter found in the Ronald Wilson of Maharashtra. In the letter, there were 27 names including Vavara Rao’s name. Vara Vara Rao’s name had reportedly surfaced in one of the letters, which refers to a requirement of Rs 8 crore to procure M-4 rifles and 400,000 rounds and speaks of “another Rajiv Gandhi-type incident
Speaking on the occasion, Varavara Rao’s wife has said that the police conducted raids in the house by detaining them for seven hours. She lamented that the police were harassing them for mentioning Varavara Rao’s name in the Maoists letter addressed to one Wilson of Maharashtra. She said that she came to know the fact of raids in their daughters latter. She alleged that the police didn’t give a chance to watch the television also. The police also made them to switch off their mobiles and locked the house from inside.
On the other hand, tension prevailed before the Varavara Rao’s residency located at Gandhi Nagar during the police raids since morning. Several peoples’ organizations leaders were reached to the Varavara Rao’s residence and staged dharna raising slogans like ‘go back go back Pune Police’. The police tried to calm down them but they entered into verbal argument with the police. They demanded the state and central governments to withdraw the cases filed against Varavara Rao.
‘Conspiracy charge big lie’
Speaking to the media at Varavara Rao’s residence, senior journalist N Venugopal said that the conspiracy of killing Modi was a big lie. The Modi government was enacting drama to get the sympathy to improve the falling graph his government. Speaking on the occasion, Varavara Rao said that he has nothing to do the alleged letter. He further said that the police may arrest him by framing falsehood allegations. The police arrested the people, who were striving for the sake of downtrodden and the release of political prisoners. They were not involved in any murder politics, he added alleging that the letter was planted. The police said that they found the letters while investigating the alleged Maoists links to the Koregaon-Bhima caste riots that left one person dead.
