PM Modi meets Prince Karim Aga Khan

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) Prince Shah Karim Al Hussaini (The Aga Khan IV) here on Wednesday.

Global Shia spiritual leader, the Aga Khan arrived here on Tuesday on a 10-day official visit at the invitation of the Government of India.

The visit will coincide with the commemoration of his diamond jubilee, marked across the world.

Highness the Aga Khan was received by Chief of Protocol Sanjay Verma, and Joint Secretary Deepak Mittal.

“This visit is part of a series of visits that coincide with the commemoration of the Aga Khan’s Diamond Jubilee, marking the 60th anniversary of his leadership as Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslim Community,” the AKDN said in a statement.

He will travel to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Mumbaim, where he will meet with the Governor and Chief Minister of Gujarat, the Governor, Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana and the Governor and Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

“In 2015 the Aga Khan was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, one of the country’s highest civilian decorations, for his contributions to social development in India,” the official release said. (ANI)
