Police seizes foreign currency, gold at Hyderabad Airport, arrests smugglers

Hyderabad: In two different incidents, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence foiled the attempt of smuggling of foreign currency and gold.

According to the details of the incidents, in the wee hours of 6th June, an air passenger arrived at the Hyderabad International Airport to board flight number 6E-1405 of Indigo bound for Sharjah.

On receiving information, the officials searched the baggage of the passenger and seized Qatar Riyals, Kuwait Dinars, Bahrain Dinars, UAE Dirhams, Saudi Riyals and American Dollars worth Rs. 27 lakh and 23 thousand. The passenger was arrested and a case was registered under Customs Act of 1962.

In another incident, a passenger who arrived at Hyderabad from Abu Dhabi through Etihad Airways flight number E4-274.

On his arrival at Hyderabad Airport, the passenger entered into the washroom. He was followed by an employee of Air India to whom the passenger was handing over 12 gold biscuits to be given to a smuggler in Hyderabad. The Revenue Intelligence Officials arrested the passenger with 1.4 kg gold valued at Rs. 44, 60, 640 and started investigations.

It may be mentioned that at Hyderabad International Airport, gold is being smuggled with the help of airport employees. Recently, 6 persons and airport employees were arrested in smuggling cases.
