Politics of ‘Name Change’: Bahadur Shah Zafar’s great-great-granddaughter expresses views

Navi Mumbai: Zeenat Mahal Shaikh, great-great-granddaughter of last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar expressed her views on the politics of ‘Name Change’. She termed the ‘name change’ of historic cities as “dirty politics”.

According to the report published in Times of India, she asked whether they will change the name of the country for the sake of politics.

It may be mentioned that Zeenath is the youngest daughters of Sultana Begum (65) and late Mirza Mohammed Bedar Bakht. Mirza was the great-grandson of the emperor.

It may be recalled that Sultana, a resident of Kolkata was running a tea stall business untill government started giving pension of Rs. 6000 per month.

Currently, Zeenat and her family members are also living a life of lower middle class family.

Meanwhile, Iqbal Ahmed Nawab, brother-in-law of Zeenat said that many myths are being spread about Mughal’s rule.

He also said that Mughals were never on the side of British, however, small rajas accepted British during 1857 war.

It may be noted that after the war of 1857, British sent Bahadur Shah Zafar, then 84, to Burma.
