‘Politics’ over NRC draft unbecoming: Rajnath

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that the opposition parties are playing politics over the Assam National Registers of Citizens (NRC) draft and are also trying to fabricate an ambiance of fear and tension over the matter.

“I believe that there should not be any politics over the recently introduced NRC draft. The people of Assam, for long, have faced this issue. We have fulfilled their wish through the draft. A feeling of tension and fear have been created unnecessarily. There’s nothing to be worried of,” Singh said.

Clearing the doubts that this draft is not a final one, the Home Minister assured, “It’s just a draft, and let me say, it’s not a final one. People who have been left out will get time for any kind of claims or objections.”
The NRC draft, which was released on July 30, left out nearly 40 lakh people in Assam, incorporating names of 2.89 crore people out of 3.29 crore applicants.

Since then, the Opposition has been at variance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Centre over the issue. (ANI)
