The Polygamist: Bangladeshi Man with 28 Wives arrested after complaints of dowry harassment

 

 

Dhaka: A 45-year-old Bangladeshi man accused of marrying 28 times and has been arrested after his 25th wife complained to police about dowry harassment.

Yasin Byapari was arrested on Sunday evening at Taltali in Barguna district from his 27th wife’s home. A court sent him to jail in connection with a dowry case filed by his ’25th wife’.

However, Tania managed to track down the name and addresses of 17 of her husband’s wives and informed to the police with all the details.Byapari married Tania in 2011 and had a girl child. Tania later discovered that she is not the only wife of her husband. He told her that he had only married twice before.

She said that  Yasin has two daughters with his second wife, one son with his third wife, one son with his seventh wife and a daughter with his 24th wife.

She said after their marriage, Yasin used to stay away from home by giving certain excuses. After few days, he started harassing her and demanded dowry. Tania filed the dowry case with the Khulna Chief Judicial Magistrate, on September 29 last year.

She  said.”Then without informing me, he married a girl from Matibhanga area of Rajapur Sadar Upazila. But the girl divorced Yasin after she discovered his exploits.”

“Then in 2015, he married a Chittagong-based girl from Taltali. But he did not take her to his house and went on to marry a garment worker from Khulna,” she said.
