Pompeo asks Imran Khan to take ‘decisive action’ against terrorism

Washington: United States Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo on Thursday (local time) spoke with Pakistan’s new Prime Minister Imran Khan and sought for a “decisive action” against the terrorists operating in the country.

United States State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement, “Secretary Michael R. Pompeo spoke today with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and wished him success. Secretary Pompeo raised the importance of Pakistan taking decisive action against all terrorists operating in Pakistan and its vital role in promoting the Afghan peace process.”

Pompeo has also expressed his willingness to work with the new Pakistan Government, under the leadership of Khan, “towards a productive bilateral relationship.”

Welcoming Khan as Pakistan’s new Prime Minister, the US yesterday expressed keenness to work together “to promote peace and prosperity in Pakistan and the region.”

Khan was sworn in as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan at the President House in Islamabad.
