Ponguleti demands probe into negligence of Irrigation Dept

Demanding the State government to order comprehensive inquiry into the negligence of Irrigation department, which caused the death of labourers, Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy asked the Chief Minister to interfere in the issue.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday, Ponguleti alleged that the labourers were died due to the contractors’ negligent attitude in taking safety measures. Referring to labourer’s death in Palamuru-Rangareddy project on Wednesday, Ponguleti said that the labourer died even in Kaleswaram project works. The contractors were doing works as they wished manner. The government was trying to escape from the issue by making the concerned contract agencies to pay the exgratia to the families of the workers died.

Questioning the negligent attitude of the irrigation department, Ponguleti alleged that the state government failed in coordinating the Labour, Home, Irrigation departments. The Minister from Mahabubnagar district was giving irresponsible answers, he said and asked the Chief Minister to interfere in the issue by ordering comprehensive inquiry into the issue. Asking the state government to tell the details of the workers from various states, Ponguleti found fault with the state government for allotting the tunnel works to Navayuga Company, which was supposed to do surface works of Palamuru-Rangareddy project. Ponguleti demanded the Irrigation department to own the responsibility of the deaths of labourer in Palamuru-Rangareddy project. (NSS)
