Private bill in RS against defections: YCP

YCP MPs M Rajamohan Reddy and Vijaya Sai Reddy today sought the Centre to transfer the powers of Speaker of a state to Election Commission to suspend the MLAs, MPs and MLCs defecting into other political parties in three months for not resigning. They told reporters in Delhi after attending an all party meeting called by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan seeking their support for GST Bill and amendments in Child Labour Act.

Vijaya Sai Reddy will move a private member bill in Rajya Sabha against the defections Rajmohan Reddy said. This is to see that the Centre take a call on stripping the powers off the Speaker of a state and give the same to the EC to suspend the defectors in just three months if they failed to resign to their posts. The anti defection law should get teeth to set the bad practice of buying the MLAs and MPs which is blot on the democracy he said adding that the EC should be empowered to disqualify the defectors. The YCP will demand the centre to implement AP Reorganisation Act and allot special status to AP, special railway zone, national status to Polavaram, special package to backward districts, industrial corridor between Vizag and Chennai and increase in the quantum of MP lads, he added.  (NSS)
