Bengaluru: Actor Vijay starrer Mersal movie is caught in the controversy after its release since BJP took offense to certain dialogues from the movie regarding the Central’s initiatives like GST, Digital India.

Though the movie has garnered huge supportive fans, the movie’s filmmakers are trapped in the controversy due BJPs opinions which have forced them to issue an apology and clarifying statement regarding certain scenes and dialogues of the movie.

Producer Hema Rukmani has officially issued a public apology for those who have been offended by certain scenes from the movie.

Under such political influence, the movie producers have moved to another level where they have also offered to cut and remove the scenes in question if required.

An official statement released by the Mersal Producer and CEO of Sri Thennandal Films Hema Rukmini reads as follows, “Mersal, our 100th film, starring Vijay and directed by Atlee, is running successfully across the globe. On behalf of my organization, I thank all of the fans for their support and for making this such a grand success. Ilayathalapathy Vijay has been working hard for the film for over a year, along with director Atlee and the crew. Despite numerous roadblocks and controversies prior to the release, Mersal fulfilled the hopes of the fans, by releasing on Deepavali. Crores of rupees and the work of hundreds of employees’ for over a year is behind this movie. The controversies that have arisen over the last few days have caused us a great deal of heartache. The movie Mersal is not against anyone, nor does it portray any views against the government. ‘Medical care for the common man’ is the core of the film. To give good films that provide wholesome entertainment to the people has been our motive over the years. If the movie has hurt the feelings of anyone, I consider it my personal heartache and apologize. We met with the representatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party in person and explained our stand. Thamilisai Soundarrajan and many others appreciated our direct approach. According to their point of view, their protest is valid. We are willing to remove scenes or messages that may be seen as misleading or which might create misunderstanding. I thank Tamilians across the world, especially fans of Ilayathalapathy Vijay, on behalf of Thennandal Films, for making this Deepavali a Mersal Deepavali.”

This apology statement comes after leading party BJP made the hit flick a political offense, objecting against few scenes from the movie referring to GST, Digital India.

This antagonism caused by the BJP party trying to suppress voices and freedom of expression turns out to be party’s intolerance towards freedom of speech and also acceptance of opinions.
Apart from the controversy, Kollywood Actors were all praise about the movie and extended their support to it. They have also spoken against re-censoring of the movie.

In the movie Vijay questions to why can’t the government provide free healthcare even when it charges 28 percent GST. His reference to the recent Gorakhpur tragedy in UP where 60 children died in a government-run hospital due to lack of oxygen supply the state which is under BJP rule.

Well in times like these the leading party’s political stances are proving to be suppressive.
Seems like it is high time before the public of India takes offense against such political parties.
