Hyderabad: Chairman of Telangana Political Joint Action Committee, Prof. Kodandaram told that it is the responsibility of the Govt. to rehabilitate contract employees of Singareni collieries who have been dislodged on account of open cast mining. Their unemployement is affecting their health. He was addressing a gathering of contract employees of Singareni collieries at Press Club, Bashir Bagh yesterday.
He mentioned that earlier, Singareni collieries was a Govt. establishment but due to the increasing monopoly of Andhra rulers it was decided to privatize it. Due to the protest of the employees, this decision was withdrawn but the process of retrenchment of employees started due to open cast mining. Gradually, open cast mining activities got increased and the contractors started using more and more machines which proved disadvantageous to the contract employees. The number of such employees got reduced to 56000.
