Proposed Islamic terrorism course: Delhi Minorities Commission issues notice to JNU

New Delhi: The Delhi Minorities Commission issued a notice to the registrar of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) seeking to know the reason behind the proposal to start a course on ‘Islamic terrorism’.

In the wake of reports published in various newspapers about the proposed course, the Commission has asked the registrar to explain on what basis the course on Islamic terror is being started by the university. This was informed by commission’s chairman Zafarul Islam Khan.

It must be noted that the JNU Academic Council reportedly “passed” a proposal to set up a Centre for National Security Studies under which there would be a course on “Islamic terrorism”.

The DMC has sought the reply from JNU administration whether there is any concept paper or proposal to include a course on “Islamic Terror in the proposed Centre for National Security Studies, and demanded a copy of it.

The commission has also asked the JNU to provide minutes of the Academic Council meeting. The reply is sought by June 5.
