Psycho Shankar: Man who was involved in 30 rape, 15 murder cases commits suicide in jail

Saleem: Serial rapist and murderer M Jaishankar, notoriously known as “Psycho Shankar” allegedly committed suicide at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Tuesday. He was accused in 30 rape cases and around 15 murder cases in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

According to the report published in TOI, Jaishankar slit his throat using shaving blade. The incident came to limelight when some inmates found him in a pool of blood. He was rushed to Victoria Hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead at around 5:10 a.m.

It may be mentioned that earlier, Jaishankar had escaped from the prison. However, police arrested him again near Kudligate in Bengaluru.

After the incident, authorities of the prison ordered probe in the incident. As per prison officials, Jaishankar had stolen shaving blade from a barber in order to commit suicide.

M Shankar, alias Jaishankar (41) hailed from Kanyapattanam Konasamudra village in Tamil Nadu’s Salem district. He started his career as a truck driver after completing class XII.

He had raped and murdered constable M Jayamani (39) on August 23, 2009. The body was found on 19th September in Saleem District. He was arrested on 19th October 2009. During the preliminary investigation, Tirupur police found that he was earlier arrested by Sankari Police in rape and murder case. Later, police also found that he was involved in 13 rape and murder cases and seven rape cases in Tirupur, Salem and Dharmapuri districts.

On 18th March 2011, when constables were taking Jaishankar back to Coimbatore after producing him in Dharmapuri Fast Track Court, he escaped from the custody. After escaping, he again allegedly raped and murdered six women in Bellary, Karnataka. He also reportedly killed a man and a child in Dharmapuri District.

Karnataka Police rearrested him on 4th May 2011 near Bijapur.
