Nepal CIB arrests dozens of foreign docs working sans permission

Kathmandu: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Monday arrested over a dozen foreign doctors working in various hospitals in and around Kathmandu without acquiring permission from the Nepal Medical Council (NMC).

The DIGP of the Nepal Police, Puskar Karki informed that the doctors hailed from the United States, Australia and China.

“We have arrested over a dozen doctors of foreign nationality who has been practising without getting any formal permission and accreditation from the Nepal Medical Council. In the meantime, the CIB will not be able to disclose the specific number regarding the nationality and this number also could rise as we are undergoing investigation over it,” Karki told ANI over the phone.

Karki added that the doctors were arrested from the Allepo Clinic in Thamel, China Great Wall Clinic from Baudha and Simrik Hospital in Kathmandu, in coordination with the NMC.

As per the preliminary information from the CIB, the foreign nationals lagged behind on the educational criteria and others set by the NMC.(ANI)
