Punjab: Government to charge tax to keep animals

Punjab: For the time first ever in India, people will be charged tax to keep pet animals as well as domestic animals.

Punjab State Government has passed an ordinance where Punjab residents will now be charged a yearly tax of Rs 500 to keep their domestic and an amount Rs 250 to keep pet animals.

“Branding Code”, Identification number or microchip will be given or installed on each animal said the order.

The Pet owners from now on will have to acquire pet license from the concerned authority and shall renew it yearly.

Department of Local Administration headed by State Minister Navjot Singh Siddhu issued the notification. Cow, buffalo, bull, camel, horse, elephant, pig, sheep, deer etc will fall under the domestic animal category whereas dog, cat etc under pet animals category.
