Quantico row: Pooja Bhatt tweets in defence of Priyanka Chopra

NEW DELHI: A day after Priyanka Chopra apologised for a recent controversial episode of her American TV series ‘Quantico’, in which ‘Hindu nationalists’ were depicted as terrorists, director Pooja Bhatt has come to the defence of the ‘Baywatch’ star.

“When Priyanka Chopra makes a mark for herself internationally we claim her achievements as our own and then threaten to ban her films and make her apologise for a work of fiction that has been created by someone else. Can we please attempt to be larger than that?, Pooja wrote on Twitter on Monday.

Taking to her Twitter handle, the actress said that her intention was not to hurt the sentiment of the people and that she was a proud Indian.

“I’m extremely saddened and sorry that some sentiments have been hurt by a recent episode of Quantico. That was not and would never be my intention. I sincerely apologise. I’m a proud Indian and that will never change. (sic),” Priyanka tweeted.

The episode which aired on June 1 drew flak on social media, with fans questioning how Priyanka, an Indian, could even agree to be a part of the controversial plot.

In the show, Chopra, who plays CIA operative Alex Parrish, foils a plot by Indian nationalists who want to carry out a nuclear attack in Manhattan.

Earlier, ABC Studios and executive producers of the TV series had issued an apology for the same.
