Quoting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), NZ PM says “we are one”

CHRISTCHURCH: Tens of thousands of Cantabrians including the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern have gathered for the Muslim call to prayer to show their support for the Islamic community following the twin attack in New Zealand that claimed 50 lives and scores of others wounded.

Non-Muslims stood in silence at Christchurch’s central Hagley Park, a short walk from the Al Noor mosque for Muslim call to prayer which is broadcast live on national television and radio stations.

Prime Minister Arden, donned in black dress and headscarf gave a short speech in which she reads out a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi WaSsalaam).

“According to Prophet Mohammed (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Salaam), the believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When any part of the body suffers, the whole body feels pain,” she said. “New Zealand mourns with you, we are one,” she added.

To stand in solidarity with the Muslim community, many women also chose to wear headscarves.

Al Noor imam Gamal Fouda then took to the lectern to denounce the “evil ideology of white supremacy” and praise Kiwis for their support.

“I look out and I see the love and compassion in the eyes of thousands of fellow New Zealanders and human beings from across the globe,” Fouda said.

“This terrorist sought to tear our nation apart with an evil ideology… But, instead, we have shown that New Zealand is unbreakable.”
