Rains continue on Thursday also, GHMC teams plunge into action

Hyderabad: The incessant rains that have been lashing the city since Wednesday continued on Thursday morning also.

According to officials, till 8 am on Thursday, Pashamylaram received 3.1 cm of rainfall, followed by Malkajgiri which recorded 2.3 cm, Serilingampally with 2.6 cm, Uppal with 2.3 cm and Balanagar with 2.3 cm. A few schools and colleges have declared a holiday to avoid inconvenience to students. Many office-goers hired cabs to reach their workplaces and avoiding their private transportation fearing traffic jams. With the rains continuing, instructions have been issued to GHMC officials to remain alert and clear water logging on the main thoroughfares.

GHMC monsoon teams plunged in clearing water stagnation at Mehdipatnam, Malakpet and at IS Sadan and a few other areas. A tree got uprooted near Shadi Hospital at Dilsukhnagar, officials said.

It may be mentioned here that on Sunday, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao directed the officials to remain alert in view of MET department’s heavy rain forecast in the State for three to four days beginning Sunday. The Met Department warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places in Nalgonda, Khammam, Warangal and Mahbubnagar districts of the state. Subsequently, Chief Secretary S K Joshi issued instructions to all officials to coordinate with all the departments and take necessary steps. (NSS)
