Raipur: 23 injured after truck carrying 40 overturns

Raipur: At least 23 people were injured after a truck carrying 40 people overturned near Chattisgarh’s capital Raipur on Thursday.

The incident occurred near the Mandir Hasaud area of Raipur. All 40 people on board the truck received injuries of varying extent and have been transferred to the Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital.
Five of the injured are in serious condition.

Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singh Deo and Congress MLA Satyanarayan Sharma visited the hospital to access the situation.

“Around 40 people have been admitted, two are said to be in serious condition, they are on ventilator support. Two others are also very serious, they are in the ICU, rest of them have sustained various injuries but are not very serious, they will be discharged soon,” Deo told media persons.

“It is natural that, in order to save money, people resort to measures like these, where so many people are packed in a vehicle. This should not happen anymore, the government has taken this into cognizance.

Unfortunately, action is taken only after such accidents occur. We have to devise a system which minimises risk in such cases,” Deo added.
