JAIPUR: A video of government doctors performing a post-mortem of two bodies beside a road on Wednesday is going viral on social media platforms.
An investigation into the incident has been ordered by the local administration.
According to media reports, the doctors in question at Gadara Road community health center in Rajasthan’s Barmer district claimed that they were forced to perform the procedure on the two bodies outside on road because there are no mortuaries available nearby.
“There is no mortuary in 100-kilometer stretch between Barmer and Gadara Road. After requests from the police and family members, doctors performed the post-mortem in the open on humanitarian grounds,” said Dr. Kamlesh Choudhary, Barmer’s chief medical and health officer. “Protocol has been followed during the postmortem,” reported Hindustan Times.
Every protocol was strictly adhered to, they added. However, villagers said that open-air autopsies were a common occurrence in the area.
The deceased were identified as Raja Devi and her 30-year-old daughter-in-law Mayya Kanwar who died after coming came in contact with an electric line while drying clothes.
