Rajasthan elections: Congress fields 15, while saffron party 1 Muslim candidate

Jaipur: Congress has fielded 15, while BJP has fielded only 1 Muslim candidate for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly elections. Transport minister Younus Khan has been fielded by BJP from Tonk constituency. He is the only Muslim candidate from BJP out of 200 Assembly seats. He will contest against Congress State president Sachin Pilot.

In 2013, BJP had fielded four Muslim candidates; two of them had won. While in the last election, Congress had fielded 16 Muslim candidates, but all of them faced defeat.

This time Congress has decided to contest on 195 assembly seat out of 200. It has left 5 seats for its allies. Out of 195, it has given 15 Muslim candidates a chance to try their luck. The Congress has fielded three women, including Safia and Gulnaz, the wives of two Muslim candidates who contested the 2013 election.

Habibur Rahman who joined Congress after quitting BJP has been given a chance from Nagore. Imam Uddin Ahmed Khan will be fielded from Tijara, Naseem Akhtar from Pushkar, Saleh Ahmed from Pokhran and Zahir Hussain from Makrana.
