Rajnath Singh to visit Ajmer shrine to promote communal harmony

Jaipur: In a bid to promote communal harmony, home minister Rajnath Singh will be visiting Ajmer Sharif dargah, located in Rajasthan, an official statement said. He will make the visit along with the members of National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH) governing council, the statement added.

Union Minister of State for Home, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, had last month informed parliament that 822 communal incidents took place in the country in 2017. Around 703 similar incidents had taken place in 2016; while in 2015, 751 such incidents had taken place.

Most of the incidents based on communal violence had taken place in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, he said as per a leading News Agency.

The renowned Dargah is a shrine of Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti located at Ajmer, that is respected by both Hindus and Muslims alike. The shrine has the grave (Maqbara) of the Sufi saint. It has been estimated that around 150,000 pilgrims visit the site every day.
