Muscat: Residents of Oman and visitors who are planning to visit the country must be aware of the fact that eating food or drinking water in public place during the month of Ramadan is a criminal offense.

According to the report published in Khaleej Times, they can enjoy their meals in hotels.

As per article 277 of Sultanate’s Penal Code, the violator of the law will be sent to jail for not less than 10 days. The jail term may extend to three months.

It may be mentioned that eating or drinking while driving a car is prohibited as it is against road safety. Consuming anything inside the car when it is parked is also an offense during Ramadan.
