Ranatunga brothers drubbed in Sri Lanka Cricket elections

Johannesburg : Arjuna Ranatunga, who led Sri Lanka to its first World Cup triumph in 1996, and his brother Nishantha suffered humiliating defeats in the country’s cricket board elections on Sunday.

Ranatunga lost by 22 votes to businessman Jayantha Dharmadasa in the election for the post of vice-president, Sport24 reported.

Meanwhile, businessman and politician Thilanga Sumathipala was elected as the president of the crisis-ridden SLC after thumping Nishantha by 32 votes.

Amidst allegations of rampant corruption, the then sports minister of Sri Lanka, Navin Dissnayake, had sacked the previous board last year. (ANI)
