UP: Rape victim’s father dies in judicial custody, Yogi remains silent

UNNAO: Rape victim’s father who had alleged his daughter’s rape died in judicial custody today after being picked up by Police sleuths.

One day prior to his death in judicial custody, the rape victim’s father along with his daughter attempted suicide outside UP CM Yogi’s residence.

The father was reportedly beaten up after his 16-year-old- rape-victim daughter filed a complaint against the alleged rapists BJP legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brother.

The victim alleged the BJP member from Unnao and his brother had raped her last year and since then her was family being constantly threatened after the family tried to file an FIR against the accused.

The victim said the Police officials refused to take action against the accused and instead her father was assaulted by Sengar and his associates on Tuesday.

The Police filed an FIR against the girl’s father and arrested him said the girl. It was during the judicial custody his father had died said the girl.

A probe in to the matter has been ordered while two police officers and four constables have been suspended with four other persons accused of beating the girl’s father have been arrested.

“The incident happened while the man was in judicial custody. Magisterial inquiry will be conducted. If there have been lapses by the police, action will be taken,” said the Deputy Inspector General of Police Pravin Kumar.

The girl claimed no action was taken against the accused even though the victim’s family made numerous attempts to file an FIR against the accused.

“I want all of them arrested otherwise I will kill myself. I had even gone to the chief minister with no result. When we tried to file a complaint, we were threatened,” the girl had said before committing suicide.

BJP member Sengar, who was previously Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party’s member denied the allegations.

He said, “It’s a conspiracy hatched by my political opponents to damage my reputation… I have no problems with any probe. Let a probe be conducted, and the guilty be given the stringent punishment. If I am found guilty in the probe, I am ready to face the punishment.”

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader Juhi Singh accused Yogi’s government for his inaction which claimed Mr Singh’s life.

“The girl kept requesting for security for the family. But nothing was done. Insensitivity is rampant in this state. This is murder,” she said.
