Report claimed Chinese firm won contract to print Indian currency, Indian govt. responds

China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation, a Chinese company claimed that it has won the contract and has been given the license to print Indian currency notes.

China Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation started the process of printing foreign currency notes in 2013. This company prints currency of several other nations which include for Nepal, Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Brazil and Poland.

Following this claim by the Chinese company the opposition parties sought a clarification from the government following a report published in South China Morning Post.

Raghav Chanda, Aam Aadmi Party national spokesperson termed this revelation as a “big threat to India’s national security” and “financial sovereignty” and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why this information was not available in the public domain.

 

 

Now Indian government responded to these claims, The Ministry of Finance, in a statement, said, “Reports about any Chinese currency printing corporation getting any orders for printing Indian currency notes are totally baseless. Indian currency notes are being and will be printed only in Indian Government and RBI currency presses.”
