Revanth arrest as per EC directive: CEO

Hyderabad: Chief Electoral Officer Rajath Kumar today said they got arrested Congress working president and MLA candidate of Kodangal segment Revanth Reddy for making derogatory remarks and threatened to prevent the Kosgi public meeting of TRS chief and caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Speaking to mediapersons today, the CEO said the Congress candidate was creating panic leading to law and order problem and the police were directed to take him into preventive custody. “I sought reports from the DGP and District Election Officer on the issue, he said. However, the EC will give permission to Revanth Reddy to conduct campaigning and he should not object to the public meetings of other leaders, he added.

The Election Commission has taken suo moto cognisance of comments of Revanth Reddy and arrested him, Rajath Kumar said there was no truth in what the Congress leaders were making comments that the Chief Minister and the police were targeting Revanth Reddy. As per the directive of the EC, the police have arrested Revanth Reddy to pave way for smooth conduct of the Chief Minister’s public meeting in Kosgi and elsewhere in Kodangal segment.
Congress leader Vem Narender Reddy moved the court objecting to the arrest. However, District Collector Annapurna said Revanth will be freed after the Chief Minister’s public meeting in Kosgi town.
