Rouhani says Iran won’t bow to Trump pressure

Tehran: Promising the Iranians that the government will be able to handle the economic pressure of new US sanctions, President Hassan Rouhani said that Iran would not bow to Trump. His statement came a day after traders massed outside parliament, protesting against a sharp fall in the value of the national currency.

Rouhani was giving a speech on state television which was broadcast live. He described Trump’s actions on the international nuclear deal as “appalling and illegal” and said that the withdrawal had hurt America’s global reputation.

It must be noted that Washington is to start reimposing economic penalties on Tehran after quitting the agreement.

Rouhani defended his economic record saying that the government’s income had not been affected in recent months and the fall in the rial was the result of “foreign media propaganda”.
